Bhumi Pednekar has always wanted to be an actress “since the age of twelve”. But since she “was not thin”, she knew that with 72 kg, she “could not hope for a role as a conventional heroine”.

Bhumi nevertheless found a job at Yash Raj Films, as a casting assistant.

After several years, her dreams came true when she was offered the role of Sandhya in Dum Laga Ke Haisha.

The actress was asked to take an extra 15 kg for her role on screen! 

“I was told to gain about 15 kilos or more, in six months. Now these are the best six months of my life! Because I was told to eat, eat and eat, and I like it! I reached 90 kg!

The actress herself admitted that she consumes 4000 calories a day.

After filming was finished, Bhumi decided to lose weight the natural way. She begins what she calls “her weight loss journey”.

Bhumi‘s diet

Don’t get stuck in a diet where you set unrealistic goals. I was able to lose weight while feeling happy and without starving myself. Food makes me happy… the only thing I have completely stopped taking is sugar. I also controlled my carbohydrate intake. 

I followed my diet, I was careful about the portions I was taking and I didn’t binge. I had a cheat meal every five days. 

The actress adds, “It sounds weird, but I’ve never been to a dietician or nutritionist. I used Google and my mom’s knowledge of food to lose weight.

Breakfast

The day begins with either a glass of hot water or 50 ml of aloe vera or detoxifying water.

  • 30 min later – Muesli with milk (vegetable or not) and linseed or sunflower seeds.
  • One hour before going to the gym – Wholemeal bread with 2 egg white omelets + fruit (papaya, pear or apple)
  • After sport – 5 hard-boiled egg whites.

When I wanted to lose weight, I woke up every day and went to the gym. I have decided never to break this resolution. Of course, there were days when I would just go to the sauna, but I was there, absorbing the energy.

There are no excuses, even when motivation is low. When I wasn’t motivated, I would replace my cardio sessions with dancing at home.

Bhumi Pednekar walked up the stairs instead of taking the elevator, got up to drink a glass of water whenever I was thirsty (instead of keeping a bottle next to me). It might sound silly, but it really helps in the long run !!

Bhumi Pednekar Weight Loss

Bhumi Pednekar Lunch consists of :

2 multigrain wraps (no wheat) with a little butter + Dal (include a dish based on legumes) + vegetables cooked in olive oil (or not) + fromage blanc + Buttermilk (substitutes for Buttermilk in France are “lait ribot”, “leben” (or lben), “fermented milk” (Yorik de Yoplait) or “curdled milk”.

This meal contains between 400 and 500 calories and less than 80 grams of carbohydrates.

Sometimes,

  • Grilled chicken sandwich stuffed with vegetables
  • Hummus with cucumber and carrots or nuggets.
  • Bowl of legumes and salad with chicken.

Evening snacks

  • Around 4:30 p.m. – Papaya or apple / pear / guava.
  • 1 hour later – Cup of  green tea
  • Around 7 p.m. – large bowl of salad (  seasonal vegetables and  fruits , seasoned with olive oil and balsamic vinegar or olive oil with garlic and mustard or cider vinegar).

Dinner

  • Fish / chicken with vegetables.
  • Tofu + vegetables + a small cup of brown rice

Healthy snacks

  • Avoid junk food!
  • Berry smoothie – pour a glass of water into the blender and add 2 tablespoons of yogurt. Add a teaspoon of honey and fresh berries of all kinds.
  • Yogurt Cubes – You can pour your homemade smoothie into ice cube trays. Then put everything in the freezer. The best cold snack ever!
  • Kale and soy crisps.
  • Dark chocolate. Chocolate made with at least 70% cocoa contains less sugar and more antioxidants.

To Replace Sugar

  • Bhumi Pednekar finds it very difficult to resist sugar. So she had to find alternatives.
  • Honey (contains zinc, potassium, calcium and vitamin B6)
  • Stevia
  • Date syrup
  • Maple syrup
  • Coconut sugar

After taking this wonderful trip, here is what the actress says:

My weight has never been a problem in my life, I am comfortable with my appearance, even when I weighed almost 90 kg I found myself beautiful.
