Food approach

LOW FAT DIET The goal of this diet is to regulate the levels of blood lipids and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. It is indicated in the presence of hypertension or diabetes for the prevention of atherosclerosis.

Recommended foods Foods to limit
Meats, fish Lean meats (skinless chicken and turkey, beef, veal, ham), fish and seafood (lobster, crab, and oysters in moderation) – cooked without fat. Bacon, sausages and cold cuts, duck, goose, chicken or turkey skin, fast food, offal (liver, kidneys), canned fish in oil, shrimp.

People on a diet designed to lower triglycerides should avoid sugar and foods that contain it.
